Potting Works Great for Gardens-Not So Much for QFNs......
QFNs are the fastest growing package technology in use today. It's small, lightweight, has great electrical characteristics, can perform in high frequency applications and they are cheap (at least compared to BGAs). But, does that mean they work well in all applications? Greg Caswell presented The Effect of Coating and Potting on the Reliability of QFNs at the SMTA ICSR last month. For more information on predicting the performance of your QFNs, contact Nathan Blattau, nblattau@dfrsolutions.com
